Why sliding doors

Why choose an automatic sliding door operator?

An automatic sliding door operator moves people quickly and safely, needs no swing space and gives step-free access for wheelchair users, pushchairs, trolleys and deliveries.

High footfall

Fast, reliable opening for shops, hospitals, offices, universities and public buildings.

Accessible by design

Wide, hands-free openings that support Approved Document M and Equality Act duties.

Space-saving

Leaves slide beside the opening, so there is no door arc to keep clear.

Systems we install

Sliding door operator systems we install

Single-leaf sliding doors

One moving panel for narrower openings and internal entrances.

Bi-parting sliding doors

Two panels opening from the centre for wider, busier main entrances.

Telescopic sliding doors

Stacked panels give a wider clear opening where wall space is limited.

Installation

Sliding door operator installation by our own engineers

Every sliding door operator installation starts with a survey of the opening, the structure above it, the power supply and how people use the entrance. We then recommend the right door type, activation and safety devices, quote in writing and install with our own directly employed engineers.

After installation we commission and test each door, record the checks and hand over an operation and maintenance manual, so you have a clear record of how the door was set up.

Our own operator

The ASK-2-E sliding door operator

We supply our own cost-effective, reliable ASK-2-E operator to installers across the UK and Ireland and fit it ourselves on new installations. It is a belt-driven operator with a brushless DC motor, adjustable speeds and monitored presence sensors. See the ASK-2-E specification or our trade supply page.

Safety and compliance

Safe, accessible sliding door operator installations

We install and commission each door with reference to BS EN 16005, BS EN 16361 and BS 7036-0, record the safety checks at handover and provide an operation and maintenance manual. Read our BS EN 16005 guide.

Further guidance: Approved Document M: access to and use of buildings (GOV.UK) and the Equality Act 2010 (legislation.gov.uk).

Large projects

New installations and multi-door projects

We install automatic sliding doors for contractors, developers and estates teams across southern England, the Midlands and the North West. See commercial automatic door installation and new build and large projects.

On larger projects we agree a programme, phase installation by entrance or floor and keep one point of contact from quotation to handover. After handover, the same engineers look after the doors through planned maintenance and 24/7 emergency call-out, and doors we install carry a 12-month warranty that can be extended to 3 or 4 years with a maintenance contract.

Sliding door operator: common questions

What is the difference between single-leaf and bi-parting sliding doors?

A single-leaf door has one moving panel and suits narrower openings. A bi-parting door has two panels that open from the centre, giving a wider opening and faster flow for busy entrances.

How much space do automatic sliding doors need?

They slide parallel to the wall, so they need no swing arc, but there must be clear wall or screen space beside the opening for the leaves. Telescopic doors need less.

Can you replace the operator on an existing sliding door?

Yes. Where the doors, glass and frame are sound, we can replace the operator, sensors and controls and keep the rest in place.

How often do automatic sliding doors need servicing?

At least once a year, and every six months for busy entrances. A planned maintenance contract keeps each door compliant.

Do you supply a sliding door operator to installers?

Yes. Our own ASK-2-E operator is supplied to trade customers across the UK and Ireland. See our trade supply page.
