Doors that keep healthcare buildings moving

In a hospital, clinic or care home, an entrance that fails is more than an inconvenience. Staff, patients on trolleys and in wheelchairs, visitors and deliveries all rely on doors that open when they should and close safely behind them.

Automatic doors also support infection control by reducing the number of hands touching handles, and they help buildings meet accessibility expectations under the Equality Act 2010.

What healthcare sites need from automatic doors

Every department has different demands. These are the points we plan around:

  • Hygiene: touch-free operation at entrances, wards and treatment areas
  • Accessibility: wide clear openings and easy activation for wheelchair and bed users
  • Fire safety: doors that behave correctly in an emergency and, where required, work with the fire alarm system
  • Security: controlled access to pharmacies, wards and staff-only areas
  • Reliability: planned maintenance so a failed door does not disrupt care

Door types we install in healthcare buildings

Automatic sliding doors

Ideal for main entrances and busy lobbies where many people pass through. Sliding doors give a wide, clear opening and can be set to stay open longer for trolleys and beds.

Automatic swing doors

Suited to internal corridors and ward entrances. Low-energy operators open slowly and gently, which suits vulnerable users and supports accessibility.

Automatic telescopic doors

A good choice where the opening is narrow but you need a wide clear width.

Healthcare automatic doors: common questions

How often should automatic doors in a clinic or care home be serviced?

As a general guide, automatic doors should be serviced at least once a year, and more often at busy or high-risk entrances. We will recommend a schedule based on how heavily each door is used.

Can automatic doors be connected to a fire alarm?

Yes. Automatic doors can often be interfaced with a fire alarm so they release or open as required in an emergency. The right arrangement depends on your fire risk assessment and the door type, so we check this at survey.

Do you repair automatic doors out of hours?

Yes. We offer 24/7 emergency call-out, so a faulty entrance can be made safe and secure at any time. Call 01708 864176.
